What is Baby Botox? Q&A
What is Baby Botox?
Baby Botox is a “less is more” approach. It involves applying smaller doses of Botox into the face to achieve a more natural, less ‘frozen’ result; softening expression lines rather than freezing them. It is about minimising creases and lines without losing your expressions.
How does it differ to the traditional Botox, if at all?
The main difference between Baby Botox and traditional Botox is that less units of botulinum toxin are used. It lasts about the same time and affects dynamic muscle contractions that cause wrinkles.
When considering Baby Botox, keep in mind, the lower dose may not remove all of the lines. Sometimes patients will try this lower dose first and if in a few weeks they don’t see enough improvement fine adjustments can be made to create a bespoke treatment plan.
Who is the best candidate and why?
Celebrities are obsessed with Baby Botox. It is a great way of having control over your facial expressions and emotions, whilst at the same time preventing the signs of ageing.
And younger patients are flocking for a more natural preventative approach to ageing.
First time Botox patients are perfect for this.
What are some of the key things to note about Baby Botox if someone is considering it?
Baby Botox is less noticeable and more subtle.
Great for someone who has never had Botox before and wishes to “test the water” & “dip their toe” to see for themselves.
Some patients prefer a more natural look and want movement in their face.
What are the top benefits of Baby Botox
It’s great for preventing crow’s feet and frown lines and for lifting a droopy brow. The preventive possibilities with Baby Botox allow patients to be proactive before lines appear so they can enjoy decades of a more youthful appearance.
It also allows for a more natural look. Patients with narrow foreheads or low set brows often have better results with lower doses to soften expression lines.
Botox has been shown to have other benefits for the skin, improving texture and reducing pore size.
How Should you prepare for Baby Botox if you are keen to give it a go?
Do your research and pick a practitioner who has extensive experience with facial anatomy. They all have different styles and some advocate natural results more than others. Make sure you align your aesthetic goals with theirs, not theirs with yours.
Your doctor will clean the skin with alcohol or an antiseptic and its best to not wear makeup to your appointment to avoid risk of infection.
What can you expect during a Baby Botox treatment?
The procedure takes only a few minutes. The injections are performed with a very fine needles, so pain is minimal and bruising rare. When used in the muscle, Baby Botox is injected similarly to traditional Botox, just in smaller doses.
Any potential side effects everyone should take note of?
The potential side effects are the same as with any toxin treatment. Bruising & mild injection site swelling. Allergies to neuromodulators are exceedingly rare. Migraines can occur in those with a history of the condition.
Typically, what is the cost of Baby Botox? Is it cheaper than traditional modes of Botox?
The price is usually the same. It’s the technique and expertise that you should be paying for, so don’t go cheap. Prices vary from £250-£400 and reviews should be complimentary.
Any aftercare of note to know about?
Cosmetics are not completely sterile so it’s best to avoid any application for 24 hours following an injection. Don’t exercise rigorously after getting an injection. Perspiration can introduce bacteria into the injection site, increasing your risk of infection. Don’t get chemical peels, microdermabrasion or facials for 24 hours.
Is it true Baby Botox is a subtler way to maintain results?
Yes. Instead of letting your injection totally wear off after 3 to 6 months subtle changes done over a longer period of time using lower doses of product at each treatment will maintain results. The goal of teeny targeted injections is all about personalisation.
How often should you have it done?
As with regular Botox treatments it lasts 3- 4 months. I have some patients where it lasts 3 months and other patients who experience longer results.
Any other key things to note?
Injections are usually less and spaced further apart. Botox is distributed in smaller amounts across the forehead to prevent that frozen “rabbit in headlights” look of no animation.
For years I have been mapping out the wrinkle pattern of every patient to create a personalised plan, as every patient is an individual and different.
